Professor Liu Xunhua,
LIU Xunhua is a Professor at the College of Teacher Education, Ningbo University, where he serves as a Doctoral Supervisor. He is also Director of the Center for Ocean Education Research and Director of the Educational Supervision and Assessment Center at Ningbo University. He received his PhD in History and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Education Sciences. He is a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University (USA) and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
His research focuses on ocean education, educational history, and educational theory, with particular attention to the theoretical construction of ocean education, the cultivation of national ocean literacy, the strategic framework of ocean education, and the educational implications of ocean narratives. He serves as Principal Investigator of the Major Project of the Ministry of Education’s Key Research Institute in Humanities and Social Sciences, titled “Research on the National Marine Strategic Education System” (23JZD048), which marked a historic breakthrough for Ningbo University in securing such a project. He has also led four projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China, along with more than 30 other research projects.
In recent years, he has published more than 100 academic papers in leading journals, including Educational Research, Journal of Higher Education, and Comparative Education Review. His research has been excerpted or reproduced by Xinhua Digest, China Social Science Digest, and Renmin University Copy Newspapers. His representative publications include “Healing and Life: The Educational Implication of Ocean Narration” (Journal of Shenzhen University, 2025) and “China’s Marine Literacy: Concept, System and Logical Evolution” (Journal of Shenzhen University, 2023). He has authored four academic monographs and edited two volumes. His contributions have been recognized with the First Prize and the Youth Achievement Award of the Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award (Humanities and Social Sciences), as well as multiple provincial-level awards for outstanding achievements in philosophy and social sciences.
He is actively engaged in academic service and professional organizations. He serves as Chair of the Academic Committee of the Asia Marine Educators Association (AMEA), Executive Vice Chair of the National Ocean Education Research Alliance, Chair of the Marine Culture and Literacy Education Committee of the China Pacific Society, and Vice Chair of the National Higher Education Teaching Supervision Collaboration Group. He is also a member of the Education Committee of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League and Dean of the Binhai Research Institute of the Ningbo Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Marine Education Studies and regularly participates in expert review for national- and ministerial-level research project evaluation and assessment. He has been selected for the Zhejiang Province 151 Talent Project (Second Level) and the Ningbo Municipal Leading Talent Project (First Level).
